Induction loop systems are used to assist the hearing impaired by transmitting sound from a microphone, television or other source, directly to the hearing aid.

In October 2004 the Disability Discrimination Act made it a legal requirement for service providers, including ticket offices, concert halls, churches and schools, to make provision for the hard of hearing.
